properly hydrate this summer

Beat the heat when you properly hydrate this summer. Check out these seven tips to ensure hydration throughout the high temperatures and increased activity, from sports to outdoor hobbies.

Drink plenty of water.

The most straightforward way to properly hydrate this summer is to drink water. Aim for at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. But depending on your activity level and climate, you may need to drink more water.

What’s more, remember to drink before you are thirsty.

Eat water-rich foods.

Incorporate foods with high water content into your diet. Fruits and vegetables are excellent choices, including watermelon, strawberries, oranges, cucumbers, lettuce and celery. These help with hydration and provide essential vitamins and minerals.

Carry a reusable water bottle.

Always having a water bottle on hand serves as a reminder to drink water throughout the day. Choose a reusable bottle to help the environment, and consider bottles with measurements to track your intake.

 Infuse your water.

If plain water is unappealing, try infusing it with fruits and herbs. Adding slices of lemon, lime, cucumber or mint leaves can enhance the flavor, making it more enjoyable to drink.

Limit caffeinated and sugary beverages.

Caffeinated and sugary drinks can lead to dehydration. If possible, limit your coffee, tea, soda and energy drinks. Choose water, herbal teas or diluted fruit juices instead.

Set hydration reminders.

Use technology to your advantage by setting reminders on your phone or using hydration apps. These can help you remember to take regular water breaks throughout the day.

Pay attention to your body.

Finally, listen to your body’s signals. Thirst, dry mouth and dark-colored urine are indicators that you may need more water. Make a habit of checking in with yourself and adjusting your water intake as necessary.

Summary

Ensure you properly hydrate this summer, whether exercising, practicing for team sports or working in the yard. Start by drinking a refreshing glass of water now! Staying hydrated is essential for maintaining your health, energy levels and overall well-being during the hot summer.
